The Museum's exhibits trace the history of the area now called Alpine County, from its first inhabitants, the Native Americans known as the Washoe, the coming of the early explorers such as Jed Smith, John C. Fremont, and Kit Carson, the Mormon emigrants, the silver seekers of the 1860s, and the ranching era. Alpine County's pioneer spirit lives today through our archives, photographic collections, and exhibits.
The Museum is supported by the members of the Historical Society of Alpine County, the County of Alpine, and the Museum Store which features a fine array of books, posters, and items representing Alpine County's history and environment.
The Museum also offers many special events during the year such as potlucks, picnics, lectures, and Historical Society quarterly meetings. The Museum archives are available by appointment for serious researchers and members of pioneer families.
