WA Cares Fund in November Ballot Measure

Posted on 10/01/24 by The AARP Bulletin

Voters will decide Nov. 5 whether employees and self-employed workers can opt out of Washington’s long-term care insurance program.

Initiative 2124 would let people stop paying the mandatory payroll tax and decline benefits under the WA Cares Fund, a state program designed to pay for long-term supports and services.

Supporters say passage of the ballot measure would allow for greater consumer choice. Opponents say it would effectively end the public insurance benefit and the financial assistance it provides.
