Unity in the Community: Fostering Spirit Within Osceola County

Posted on 06/05/24 by Maryanna Antoldi

AARP Orlando kicked off June with our largest event of the year in Osceola County — "Unity in the Community," a celebration of the diversity of Central Florida, in partnership with the Black Empowerment and Community Council.

Taking place at Solid Rock Community Church in Kissimmee, this outdoor extravaganza successfully connected members of our community with the important resources available to them — from AARP's Fraud Prevention, Livable Communities, Walk with a Doc, Volunteerism, and Voter Engagement efforts to other local organizations like the Alzheimer's Association, Elizabeth Dole Foundation, Osceola Council on Aging, and many others.

"It was incredibly special to bring together people from all walks of life to celebrate the rich tapestry of cultures in our community," said Yazmin Alfonso, Associate State Director of Outreach at AARP Orlando. "Through 'Unity in the Community,' we aim to not only spotlight AARP's involvement but also to strengthen bonds and build bridges within our diverse neighborhoods."

There was also plenty of fun to go along with these important resources! "Unity in the Community" had it all — salsa dancers, "Star Wars" character performers, stilt walkers, food trucks, face painting, carnival snacks, a DJ, Saxophone player, a dunk tank... You know what? Why talk about it when we can show it to you instead?

And AARP Orlando will continue to grow in the Central Florida community. There are many more events where this came from, and they're all available right at your fingertips on aarp.org/Orlando. We hope to see you at one soon!
