Try on Some Snowshoes to Stay Active This Winter
Enjoy the outdoors with a free snowshoe hike with AARP Minnesota in February.
A Dakota County naturalist will guide you over the snow- covered trails of Lebanon Hills Regional Park. Snowshoeing is fun and easy for beginners. As a bonus, the activity offers low-impact aerobic exercise, and it tones the calf, quadriceps and hamstring muscles.
The nearly 2,000-acre Lebanon Hills is Dakota County’s largest park. The park is about 12 miles southeast of the Minneapolis-St. Paul airport. It features forest, grasslands, lakes and marshes. It has wooded trails, totaling 20 miles, for walking, hiking, birding and other activities.
The snowshoe walk is Saturday, Feb. 11, from 2 to 4 p.m. and will cover about 1.5 miles. The event is limited to 40 participants, and registration is required. Register at aarp.org/MNevents.
Meet at the park visitor center, 860 Cliff Road, Eagan, and wear warm, waterproof boots and layered clothing and outer-wear. No experience is necessary; snowshoe equipment will be provided. Admission and parking are free. If there is no snow on the ground, the walk will likely be rescheduled.
