Tax Credit Would Help Wisconsin Family Caregivers
A proposal from Gov. Tony Evers (D) would create a $500 annual tax credit for Wisconsinites who provide unpaid care to an adult family member.
Family caregivers spend more than $7,200 per year, on average, on out-of-pocket costs related to caregiving, according to a 2021 nationwide AARP survey. The tax credit could help offset some of those costs.
In the past two legislative sessions, bills creating a caregiver tax credit received bipartisan support but did not make it out of committee. The state Legislature returns Tuesday, Jan. 3, and AARP Wisconsin encourages residents to contact legislators and voice their support for passing such a caregiver tax credit.
