Survey Shows Montanans Itching for Tax Relief

Posted on 11/30/22 by AARP Bulletin

The majority of Montanans 45 and older are in favor of a state income tax exemption or reduction in tax rates for Social Security income, according to the latest “Vital Voices” survey from AARP Montana.

The survey of more than 700 people, conducted in July and August, also found that older Montanans want to see property tax relief.

Among other findings:

  • Independent living and long-term care are important for respondents; 85 percent say aging in their own home is important to them, and 76 percent say having high-quality long-term care in their community is a priority.
  • Older Montanans are engaged politically, with 93 percent registered to vote; 44 percent say they are conservative, 32 percent moderate and 18 percent liberal.
