Stand Up for Seniors: Rally for Home and Community Services on May 13th!

Posted on 04/24/25 by Ted Carey

By 2030, Massachusetts will have over two million residents aged 60+, making up 28.4% of the population. Despite this, older adults and people with disabilities are underfunded for essential home and community-based services. These programs save the state money while improving health outcomes and quality of life for consumers.

AARP Massachusetts and several other organizations will rally to let legislators know that We Are Here and urge them to support quality, effective, and cost-efficient home and community-based services. Join us at the State House on Tuesday, May 13, 2025, from 11:00am to 2:00pm in The Great Hall at the Massachusetts State House, 24 Beacon Street, Boston, MA 02133. Click Here to Register

AARP Massachusetts State Director Jen Benson will be speaking. Former AARP Massachusetts State President and Co-Chair of the Massachusetts Coalition to Build Community & End Loneliness, Sandra Harris, will emcee the event.

Featured speakers include Senator Pat Jehlen, Senate Chair of the Joint Committee on Aging and Independence, Representative Tom Stanley, House Chair of the Joint Committee on Aging and Independence, Betsey Crimmins of Mass Aging Access, Betsy Connell of Massachusetts Council on Aging, Susan Antkowiak of the Alzheimer’s Association, and Rhonda Pieroni of Hearth, Inc. Legislative office visits will follow from 12:30pm to 2:00pm

Last year, hundreds of older Massachusetts residents and supporters rallied at the State House for Older Adult Lobby Day. AARP delivered over 1200 postcards to Governor Maura Healey, advocating for a refundable $1500 caregiver tax credit.
