Shredding Events: Keep Your Data Safe from Scammers

Posted on 03/31/24 by The AARP Bulletin

New York reported more than 51,000 incidents of identity theft in 2023, according to Federal Trade Commission data.

AARP New York is hoping to help older residents avoid such crimes—as well as other incidents of fraud—by offering more than two dozen free document-shredding events around the state this spring. Shredding old documents can keep sensitive personal information out of the hands of criminals.

The events will be held from Thursday, April 18, through Saturday, May 18, in various locations. All events will be open to the public. Visit aarp.org/NYStopScams for exact dates, times and locations.
