Oak Ridge Boys Helping to Fight Fraud With Song

Posted on 11/30/22 by The AARP Bulletin

AARP Tennessee is a sponsor of the Oak Ridge Boys’ residency at Gaylord Opryland Resort, where the band will perform through Dec. 25.

The Oak Ridge Boys—all over age 70—work with AARP to help combat fraud. They also released a video aimed at countering fraud targeted at older Americans.

Tennessee ranked ninth nationally in fraud and other reports per capita in 2021, according to data from the U.S. Federal Trade Commission. There were 79,012 reports and $62.6 million in fraud losses.

During the holiday season, AARP Tennessee urges residents to be especially vigilant about gift card and charity scams. The FTC says consumers should use gift cards for gifts and not for payments. They should also check out charities before donating.
