Nature’s Summer Sampler Strolls in Epping
Come early August, our natural world is brimming with beautiful colors, enchanting noises and entertaining movement as many plants and animals are at the peak of activity with warmer days and ample food availability.
Join Kelly Dwyer from Nature Education Opportunities on August 22 as we stroll through the spectacular Burley Farms SELT property (247 N. River Road) in Epping. Along the relatively level route, which meanders through shaded hardwood forests, shrubland, and hayfields, we will explore the following:
· Wildflower-filled hayfields, home to the iconic monarch butterfly, and several native plant and butterfly species.
· Early successional shrubland providing essential habitat for numerous birds and mammals.
· Mature deciduous trees flanked by stone walls of the property’s agricultural past beckon deep forest birds such as thrush and scarlet tanagers.
Be sure to pack your binoculars, camera, water and most importantly, your senses as this property offers a feast for our eyes, ears and noses!
