Lehigh Valley Volunteers Bring Valentine's Day Cheer to Nursing Homes
On Valentine's Day, a beacon of love and warmth shone brightly in the Lehigh Valley, thanks to the compassionate efforts of the local volunteer team led by Kellie VonStein, Associate State Director of Community Outreach. In a heartening display of kindness and solidarity, Community Volunteers Ron and Milly, on behalf of the Lehigh Valley Volunteer Team, delivered 150 roses accompanied by handmade cards to residents of two skilled nursing homes in the area.
These special Valentine's Day gifts were more than just flowers and cards; they were tangible expressions of care and connection, aimed at brightening the day of each recipient. The cards, beautifully crafted with love and care, were the result of a collaborative effort led by AARP Lehigh Valley volunteer, Sue, and her grandchildren. This intergenerational project not only provided an opportunity for younger family members to contribute to a meaningful cause but also added a personal touch to the Valentine's Day celebration, making the gesture even more special.
Kellie VonStein reflected on the impact of the initiative: "Valentine’s Day is a moment to spread love and joy, and what better way to do so than by reaching out to those in our community who might particularly appreciate a reminder that they are thought of and cherished. The dedication of our volunteers, like Ron, Milly, and Sue, along with her grandchildren, truly embodies the spirit of giving and compassion that lies at the heart of our mission."
This initiative highlights the significant impact that volunteerism and community engagement can have on the lives of older adults, especially on days that celebrate love and friendship. It serves as a reminder that through collective efforts and small acts of kindness, we can make a substantial difference in the lives of others, fostering a sense of belonging and community spirit.
