AARP Eye Center
Join us for Fun & Fitness at La Crosse Events
We had two exciting events in February, and we have more fun on tap in March. We had over 50 people attend the AARP screening of The Rebellious Life of Mrs. Rosa Parks at the Rivoli in early February. The screening was followed by a panel discussion which brought up several great questions.
The Rivoli Theater was selected for its history and because it was accessible through transit and easily walkable in downtown La Crosse. The movie is about the unexpected story of Parks and her life beyond the historic bus boycott. It reveals the intent behind her activism, her radical politics and her courage.
Then we held our Walk With An Eagle event at the UW-La Crosse Health Science Center. Many AARP members have enjoyed this event, saying they loved the experience of reconnecting with UW-L. One person said his walking partner Carter was a nonstop inspiration plus he said the new awareness of all the good AARP is doing in so many initiatives like Social Security advocacy is inspiring.
We hope you’ll join our next Walk With An Eagle event on Tuesday, March 19, at 5:15 p.m. We also have a La Crosse Coffee & Conversations coming up on Wednesday, March 13, at 8 a.m. at JavaVino, 2311 State Rd., La Crosse. Check out the calendar of events on this page for more information about both of these free events.
An interesting thing happened at the last Coffee & Conversations event. Jane Beissel was at the event and when most of the people at her table left, she moved over to another table. She sat next to Kathleen Faas. As they began a conversation, they realized they lived a few houses away from each other when they were kids on Barlow Street.
As they continued talking Kathleen remembered that Jane’s mom was looking for someone to walk her daughter in the stroller and the two realized it was them. They were excited as to how this connection occurred. You just never know who you’ll reconnect with at these events.
Hope to see you at one of these upcoming events.
