‘Somos…Nuestras Historias’ Movie Series: ‘Our America: Todos Unidos’ (Nov.9 – Nov. 11| Virtual)
We invite you to watch the final film in AARP California’s “Somos…Nuestras Historias” Movie Series, the 2021 documentary Our America: Todos Unidos. Hear from celebrities, activists, immigrants and indigenous people as they celebrate the diverse cultures and rich traditions of Hispanic and Latino communities while examining the social and cultural challenges unique to the community. Tea & Coffee Tuesdays :The Truth About Recycling ( Nov. 11 @ 9 a.m. | Virtual)
This month, returning guest speaker Mark Bowers will continue our conversation on the truth about plastics. Bowers will help us demystify what items are recyclable, what we can do to reduce waste and how to manage organic materials. Register HERE. This virtual event is free and open to the public. Virtual Card Writing Service Project (Nov. 13 @ 10 a.m. | Virtual)
Join us in spreading holiday cheer to California veterans and active duty military. During our online event, we’ll provide sample language and templates to guide your messages. Please RSVP by November 7 to receive your card kit. Once you have registered to participate virtually, you’ll be sent everything you will need to complete this project from your home! Once you complete all cards, please mail the cards back to us in the return envelope. Cards must be returned no later than November 20 to ensure that we have time to deliver them to veterans’ organizations before the holiday season. Register HERE. Dementia Friendly Homes (Nov. 19 @ 12 p.m. | Virtual)
Carrie Aalberts, Dementia Darling, is an educator and advocate for the dementia community and caregivers. She knows the challenges that caregivers face firsthand and is passionate about creating a safe space for caregivers. In this program, we will go through the steps of creating a positive and safe home environment for your loved one with dementia. Carrie will break it down to make it feel manageable. Learn more HERE. Piggy Bank Essentials: Social Security – Early v.s. Full Retirement Age (Nov. 21 @ 9 a.m. |Virtual)
Are you confused about when to start your Social Security benefits? Join our virtual event on Early vs. Full Retirement Age to understand the pros and cons of claiming benefits early versus waiting until your Full Retirement Age.
