AARP Ohio wants you to have a safe holiday season with family and friends. Check out these scam prevention tips below, then enter our Freeze Out Fraud Sweepstakes for a chance to win one of four $100 Visa gift cards.
How to protect yourself from scams during the holidays:
- Go to websites you’ve verified.
- Buy gifts cards from behind the counter.
- Research requests from charitable organizations.
- Be wary of phishing emails and texts disguised as UPS, FedEx or U.S. Postal Service notices.
- Watch out for promotions offering big discounts to get you to share credit card information or click on links that download malware.
- Don’t pay by gift card or wire transfer when asked. It’s a scam.
