How to protect yourself from scams during the holidays:

• Go to websites you’ve verified.
  
• Buy gifts cards from behind the counter.
  
• Research requests from charitable organizations.
  
• Be wary of phishing emails and texts disguised as UPS, FedEx or U.S. Postal Service notices.
  
• Watch out for promotions offering big discounts to get you to share credit card information or click on links that download malware.
  
• Don’t pay by gift card or wire transfer when asked. It’s a scam.
