Help Advocate for Older South Dakotans
AARP South Dakota needs volunteers to engage with lawmakers on issues important to older adults.
During the 2023 legislative session, AARP volunteer advocates played an instrumental role in protecting property tax rebates for older residents, ensuring that Medicaid expansion would be implemented as voters intended and safeguarding voting access.
Volunteers call and email lawmakers, as well as meet with them in person, to help educate them about issues that affect older South Dakotans, such as support for caregivers and access to affordable housing.
The 2024 legislative session in Pierre kicks off on Tuesday, Jan. 9. AARP South Dakota will host its annual Lobby Day at the Capitol on Tuesday, Jan. 30, when members will be able to talk with lawmakers one-on-one.
