Got two left feet? You’re still invited to get rhythm and get fit with AARP New York’s Wellness Wednesdays—a series of free, virtual fitness and dance sessions with the IndoRican Multicultural Dance Project.

The one-hour, instructor-led Zoom classes include exercises around gentle stretching and skeletal alignment; cardio fitness and weight work; and “balance boot camp” to help stability and agility—all while listening to lively Latin rhythms provided by IndorRican Dance, a company dedicated to celebrating cultural diversity in New York City.

Classes are designed to promote physical health and social interaction among older adults of all fitness levels.

According to research by AARP’s Global Council on Brain Health, exercise and physical activity can improve cognition, reduce depression and delay dementia.

The council’s report on music also found that movement such as dance offers enormous benefits, from relieving stress to increasing social connections and reducing loneliness.

The classes are at 1 p.m. every other Wednesday until Nov. 16. Registration is required for each session.

To sign up, visit aarp.org/nyc.
