Social Security is essential for helping to cover living expenses and pay
your bills.: If politicians don’t take action to protect and save Social
Security in the next 10 years, your Social Security could be cut by 20 percent – an average of $4,000 a year.

This month, Social Security turns 89. President Franklin Delano Roosevelt signed it into law on August 14, 1935. Social Security emerged as a foundation of hope and stability for millions of Americans facing economic uncertainty. Today, over 65 million Americans receive the money they've earned over a lifetime of hard work.
