Fraud Watch Friday: Creating A Strong Password

Posted on 12/17/24 by AARP Utah

Weak passwords are one of the biggest cybersecurity risks today.

In fact, a recent AARP report revealed that 65% of Americans do not use distinctly different passwords on all their accounts. That means when one account is compromised, others are at risk.

When creating a new password or resetting your existing password for any online account, your password should have the following:

  • 8-64 characters
  • Most of the common special characters
  • Spaces ("Hello Lovie Dovie")

Your password should not:

  • Contain more than three repetitive or sequential characters (XXX)
  • Be the same as your email address

This short, educational game turns the often tedious task of creating strong passwords into a fun challenge. Generate a new password, assess its strength, and score maximum points while learning essential techniques to better protect your online security.
