Effort Underway to Help More People Age at Home
More than three-fourths of Americans 50 and older want to age in their own homes, according to AARP research, and the organization is pushing for the state to allow more individuals to do just that through an increase in funding.
According to AARP, thousands of people are on a waiting list to receive a waiver allowing them to receive home- and community-based services as an alternative to nursing home care.
AARP is also recruiting volunteers to press the Louisiana State Legislature to fund more of the waivers, which are for seniors who want to age at home or adults who have qualifying disabilities.
AARP Louisiana is also training volunteers who can act as spokespeople on caregiving issues.
