This year's Planning Academy starts October 1.

AARP Colorado invites community members enthusiastic about making their towns and cities more livable to join this year’s Planning Academy!

“We’re excited for the AARP Colorado 2024 Planning Academy,” Dr. Marissa Volpe, director of outreach, said. “This is a virtual learning opportunity to empower Coloradans of all ages to affect public policy and make our communities even better to live, work, and play.”

The 2024 Planning Academy experience starts with an 8-week virtual course conducted as a series of two-hour evening sessions and begins October 1. Participants will also be included in an “invite only” two-day AARP Planning for All Ages conference conducted by our national staff.

What all can you expect to be on this year’s syllabus?

• An overview of Age-Friendly and Livable Communities

• An introduction to planning at the local level

• Designing housing for all ages

• Smart Growth America: The intersection of housing, transportation and the environment

• Pedestrian Safety and transportation

• Equity and Livability

• Creating social connections and reducing social isolation

The experience will be capped off by the two-day “Designing for All” conference on October 16th and 17th.

Application to the program is required, and space is limited.

“Informed community members and constituents are a powerful voice,” Volpe said. “The academy gives community members tools to amplify that voice.”

The Details:

· Each regular session is held on Tuesdays (except Election Day) from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. Mountain Time via Zoom.

· The academy is a free opportunity for community members.

· There are no requirements of attendees to join local boards or committees upon completion of the academy.

· The application deadline is August 8. Fill out the application here.

· Check out AARP Livable Communities for more information on improving quality of life, as well as the AARP Livable Communities Map to see what Coloradans are already doing to improve their communities for people of all ages.
