Celebrate Summer and Pursue What Makes You Happy

Posted on 06/06/24

There’s just something about summer that brings out bliss! Whether it’s soaking in the sunshine, relaxing on vacation, or participating in celebrations, summertime is bursting with happiness.

In fact, people age 60+ are among the happiest Americans according to the recent World Happiness Report. Often times, happiness comes directly from meaningful social connections. That’s precisely why AARP is so invested in empowering older Americans to have fun in their communities – both in-person and virtually.

For example, AARP is hosting Virtual Rhythm Circles in June where you can focus on fun- while also experiencing the powerful brain health benefits of making and enjoying music. Or maybe you’re interested in becoming part of the pickleball craze. Join USA Pickleball Ambassador Mike Mitchell for a virtual class on all things pickleball with tips on how to get started, pick equipment, and beat your competition.

Each year, summertime is also when we celebrate Juneteenth, Black Music Month, and LGBTQ+ Pride Month. There are a multitude of events in your community to help each of us feel connected to these celebrations, no matter where we may live. You can connect in person at the Arizona Juneteenth Celebration or attend the Twin Cities Jazz Fest live or online. And dozens of LGBTQ+ pride events are planned in communities across the nation – from Maine to California and communities in between.

It’s easy to find the right connection to suit the fun and happiness in our everyday life– whether it means going to a big celebration, small class, volunteer event, or even an online session. Just stop by www.aarp.local to find your fun!
