Female doctor explains brain scan to unrecognizable male patient

Every day we are presented with ways to improve our brain health like…

  • Eating healthy
  • Getting enough sleep each night
  • Staying socially connected
  • Being physically active
  • Managing stress
  • Challenging our brain

But how do you translate these bullets of information into action? How do you know what you’re doing is the ‘right thing’ to do? And what research is being done and how does that relate to you or a loved one's brain health?

Brain Matters is an AARP Missouri series of 1-hour live virtual programs in collaboration with the Alzheimer's Association, Greater Missouri Chapter. Now in our third year with the program, we’re exploring some topics deeper and introducing new information & research. As a participant, you’ll benefit from presentations from brain health professionals on topics that will provide you with insight and practical ways to help you understand the basics of brain health as well as how it relates to caring for others with dementia.

Our 2024 schedule is as follows:

July 31 - The Impact of Physical Health on Your Brain
Do other health concerns like high blood pressure and diabetes increase your risk for Alzheimer’s disease or other dementia? In this presentation, attendees will learn the answer to this and other questions related to brain health. Learn about research in the areas of diet and nutrition, exercise, cognitive activity and social engagement. (Recording of this event available soon)

September 26 - Healthy Living for Brain and Body
Research tells us up to 40% of dementia cases could be delayed by healthy habits. This program will cover the latest recommendations on risk reduction, including cognitive activity, sleep and social engagement. Our presenter will do a deep dive on what we know about nutrition and exercise for maximum brain health. CLICK HERE TO REGISTER

November 12 - Joy for the Holidays: Tips for dementia-friendly celebrations
For families living with Alzheimer’s and other dementias, the holidays can be bittersweet and challenging. Festivities can agitate or confuse individuals with the disease. Care partners can be overwhelmed by trying to maintain holiday traditions while providing care. Holiday gatherings and family get-togethers can become stressful and uncomfortable. However, with planning, adjusted expectations, and tips from the Alzheimer’s Association, seasonal celebrations can still be happy and meaningful. CLICK HERE TO REGSITER

We hope you find valuable information in one or more of these programs. You may even learn something helpful for a loved one. We encourage you to share the programs with others, too.

Remember…If the scheduled date/time does not work for you, register anyway and we’ll send you a link to the recording to watch at another time.
