Ashley Ford Joins AARP Texas to Lead Volunteer Engagement for State and Federal Advocacy

AARP Texas is pleased to welcome Ashley Ford as Associate State Director for Volunteer Engagement. Ford will spearhead efforts to mobilize advocates across Texas, overseeing the recruitment and retention of advocacy volunteers to drive AARP's mission.
Ford comes to AARP from The Arc of Texas, where she served as the Director of Public Policy and Advocacy, leading the organization's advocacy efforts and public policy initiatives for Texans with intellectual and developmental disabilities.
Previously, Ford worked from 2015 to 2020 for the Texas Council for Developmental Disabilities, developing strategic programs to create systemic change in local communities across Texas.
Ford holds a bachelor’s degree in public administration from Texas State University.
A native of rural Paris, Texas, Ford’s early years spent with her great-grandmother, grandparents, and their friends instilled in her a deep appreciation for the wisdom and experience of older generations. This unique upbringing has shaped her heartfelt dedication to supporting and engaging with volunteers, making her an ideal fit for her new role at AARP Texas.
Ford brings extensive experience in public policy and advocacy to her position. Her passion for empowering individuals with lived experience and fostering community partnerships has driven her to achieve significant legislative wins and elevate the visibility of important issues at both the state and national levels.
Ford will report to AARP Texas State and Federal Strategy Director Kathy Green, who said Ford’s advocacy and organizing experience and energy will be an asset in growing and inspiring the team of volunteers who help drive AARP’s work in the Lone Star State.
Outside of her professional role, Ashley takes on the task of raising two tiny Texans and managing the home fires while her husband, an Austin firefighter, bravely battles the real ones at work, all with unwavering dedication and a sense of humor. Tex-Mex cuisine, long open roads behind the wheel, and female country music are a few of her favorite things.
