Are You Eligible for Tax Relief? AARP Foundation Property Tax Aid Can Help

Posted on 03/19/25

AARP Foundation Property Tax-Aide has launched a first-of-its-kind online resource that enables older adults to learn about state-administered property tax relief programs.

The website allows homeowners and renters to search more than 140 local property tax relief programs and access the relevant applications, when available.

The Property Tax-Aide online resource provides:

· State-level property tax relief program information

· Eligibility and document requirements, as well as filing deadlines

· Eligibility screening

More than 9 million people in the U.S. may qualify for property tax relief, but most either don’t know about their state’s programs or don’t know they’re eligible. This relief can put anywhere from $200 to $6,000 back in the pockets of older adults living with low income, helping them afford essentials like housing, food and medicine and enabling them to age in place. Property Tax-Aide wants to close the awareness gap and give older adults the information they need to apply for state-administered programs.

Since 2019, AARP Foundation Property Tax-Aide has helped older adults nationwide secure over $10 million in property tax relief. Learn more at the Property Tax-Aide website.
