AARP Volunteer Linwood Jackson Wins Andrus Award for Community Service

Linwood Jackson has been presented with the AARP Delaware 2024 Andrus Award for Community Service, the Association’s most prestigious and visible state volunteer award.

 AARP Delaware selected Mr. Jackson for his remarkable service, which has greatly benefited his community, reflected AARP’s vision and mission, and inspired other volunteers.

Linwood Jackson is a multifaceted leader, communicator, and advocate dedicated to rights, equity, and justice. As the first African American president of the Delaware Press Association, Linwood has championed free speech and the First Amendment. A two-term president of the NAACP Delaware State Conference, he was vital in securing funding for underserved schools and advancing social justice through collaboration with organizations like the ACLU of Delaware.

 An accomplished media professional, Linwood created the Rockin’ Hot Radio station. He hosted the award-winning Linwood Jackson Radio Show and The Urban Compass with Linwood Jackson TV show. Through his work in broadcasting, he has mentored rising talents and elevated community voices.

 In addition to his media contributions, Linwood serves as a board member of Newark, Delaware’s Diversity and Inclusion Commission. He is also the lead communications volunteer for AARP Delaware, working with the AARP Fraud Watch Network to educate communities about emerging scams and help individuals protect themselves from fraud. His dedication to service reflects a lifelong commitment to empowering others, celebrating diversity, and fostering positive change.

 Linwood Jackson’s hard work and motivation makes life better for his neighbors in the First State. . This makes him the perfect recipient of AARP Delaware’s 2024 Andrus Award.

 Recipients across the nation were chosen for their ability to enhance the lives of AARP members and prospective members, improve the community in or for which the work was performed, and inspire others to volunteer.
