AARP South Dakota Accepting 2023 Winter Placemaking Grant Applications
AARP South Dakota is excited to announce its 2023 Winter Placemaking Grant program, an opportunity to support local efforts to activate outdoor public spaces during cold weather months using pop-up or temporary demonstrations.
“AARP South Dakota is committed to helping communities across the state become great places to live for people of all ages with an emphasis on people age 50 and older,” said Erik Gaikowski, AARP South Dakota State Director. “We know that great communities require time to build and sustain, but we also believe quick actions can be the critical spark for long-term progress.”
Successful projects will enhance outdoor public spaces with programming and/or activities to engage and support healthy living and social connectivity for all, with a particular focus on age-friendly opportunities.
Priority will be given to eligible organizations that:
- Have a vision to create new or improve existing local efforts within the community.
- Recognize how placemaking and community design influence successful aging, equity, and health while enhancing overall livability for those 50 and older.
- Who can help expand resources or toolkits to provide healthier, more vibrant public spaces during the winter months.
In addition to grant funding, AARP SD will provide the following support for selected projects:
- Public recognition, as needed and appropriate, to achieve their goals.
- Resources to advise on best practices in community engagement and promotional outreach, along with technical assistance (as applicable).
The application deadline is October 31, 2023, with applications submitted no later than 6 p.m. Central/5 p.m. Mountain. All projects must be completed by March 31, 2024.
