AARP Pushes Bill to Curb Gift Card Scams

Posted on 03/31/24 by The AARP Bulletin

AARP Delaware is pushing a bill in the current legislative session to help educate the public about gift card scams.

The bill, sponsored by state Rep. Larry Lambert Jr. (D-Claymont), would require retailers that sell third-party gift cards to post clear signage at the kiosk alerting consumers to scams. Thieves often pose as tech support or government workers and tell people they need to pay a fee via gift cards, according to the Federal Trade Commission.

“It’s a very serious issue in Delaware that needs to be addressed,” Lambert says.
