In a remarkable milestone, AARP Oklahoma Pittsburg County Chapter #1867 has been recognized for 50 years of dedicated service to the community. This outstanding chapter has consistently demonstrated a commitment to serving others, embodying the true spirit of AARP’s mission.

Former AARP CEO Jo Ann Jenkins commended the chapter and said, “Your chapter’s founders shared AARP’s vision of ‘To Serve, Not To Be Served.’ Over the past five decades, your programs, advocacy, and service have strengthened your community.”

The chapter’s community activities, a testament to their unwavering dedication, have significantly impacted the local community. These include monthly volunteering at Shared Blessings to pack weekend snack packs for children in need, participating in the AARP Annual Day of Service, creating Valentine’s Day cards for nursing home residents and appreciation cards for police officers, writing heartfelt notes for veterans on Veteran’s Day, assisting the local veterans association with holiday needs, sponsoring and organizing a regional caregivers conference, and providing trained issue expert guest speakers for local organizations.

Additionally, several Pittsburgh County chapter members have served in state volunteer leadership. Joe Ann Vermillion, Mary'em, and Bob Bristow have served as Volunteer State President and Executive Council members. Their leadership and support have advanced AARP's goals, making a lasting difference in many lives.

“Their dedication has fostered a sense of unity and purpose, aligning with AARP’s vision of empowering people to choose how they live as they age,” AARP Oklahoma State Director Sean Voskuhl said. “AARP Oklahoma Pittsburg County Chapter #1867 demonstrates the power of community service and the importance of coming together to support one another.”
