AARP never endorses or gives money to candidates. Ever.
By Tim Summers, AARP Montana State Director
I’m often asked what role AARP plays in elections. It’s simple. We work tirelessly to make sure that your voice is heard and that your vote counts.
AARP doesn’t endorse or give money to political candidates, parties or campaigns. We do not direct candidates, parties or PACs to use our name in ads, fundraising emails or other campaign efforts. Ever.
When AARP’s name is misused by a campaign, we ask that they take it down. Our non-partisan status is fundamentally important to us and to our members, especially in this day and age, and has been verified by numerous independent fact checkers.
AARP is focused on making sure that every candidate, from both parties, are aware of the issues that matter to you – including protecting Social Security and Medicare, lowering the price of prescription drugs, and helping ensure health and financial security for you and your family. We do this work by sponsoring debates and candidate forums and offering information on major races. We also work to ensure that you have the resources you need to cast your vote -- whether from home or in person – with our Montana Voter Guide which can be found at aarp.org/MTVotes.
Advocating for you and for all Americans that are age 50-plus has been at the core of AARP’s mission since our founding in 1958. It's what we do from our office in Montana – and what we do from our offices in Washington, D.C. and every other state.
AARP will always be a fierce defender of you and the issues that directly impact Americans 50-plus. To learn more about our work on your behalf, visit our “About Us” page or follow @AARPMontana on social media.

As one of Montana’s largest non-profit membership organizations, with more than 134,000 members, we advocate for what matters most to families: health security, financial stability and personal fulfillment. We’re committed to helping already great communities across Montana become even better places for people of all ages to live and thrive by granting funds through our Community Challenge Grant Program. We fund small dollar, big impact projects in several categories, including transportation, safe streets, housing and public parks and trails.
We also connect Montanans with information and resources as well as help people connect with others who share their interests and passions – like music! As a main sponsor of the Helena Symphony’s Masterworks Series, we’re proud to help bring quality concerts to the community. By fighting on issues that matter most to Montana families and providing trusted information, we’re helping empower Montanans to choose how they live as they age.
