AARP Michigan Unveils 2024 Legislative Agenda

Posted on 02/14/24 by Careena Eggleston

AARP Michigan announced its 2024 Legislative Agenda yesterday during the annual lobby day at Heritage Hall, inside the Michigan Capitol Building. More than 50 dedicated volunteers engaged with legislators, representing both major parties and regions across Michigan.

Key highlights from the 2024 agenda include initiatives such as tax relief for family caregivers, making it easier to save for retirement, increasing support for aging in place, and lowering prescription drug prices.

The event provided a platform for open dialogue, where volunteers met with dozens of legislators and their staff, fostering conversations about policy matters affecting Michigan’s residents aged 50 and over.

Paula D. Cunningham, AARP State Director in Michigan expressed optimism, stating, “Our 2024 Legislative Agenda is a reflection of our continued commitment to addressing the evolving needs of our aging population. By engaging with lawmakers, AARP volunteers will help drive meaningful change that will help improve the quality of life for older adults and their families.”

To access and download the legislative agenda, visit the 2024 AARP Michigan State Legislative Agenda. The comprehensive document outlines AARP Michigan’s positions on key issues and serves as a valuable resource for legislators and their constituents, AARP members, volunteers and the public.

AARP Michigan encourages all stakeholders to review the agenda and actively participate in advocating for policies that enhance the well-being of older adults in the state.
