AARP Maryland is seeking a new state president, a pivotal volunteer position.

This role involves collaborating with the state director, staff, and volunteers to strategically advance AARP's mission for the betterment of older Americans. The state president will also lead the AARP Maryland Executive Council, comprising volunteer leaders from each congressional district, with 9-10 annual in-person or virtual meetings.

The incoming state president takes office in 2024, transitioning during the fall as the current president's term concludes on December 31, 2023. The term spans two years and is renewable twice. Responsibilities include chairing meetings, traveling within and outside Maryland, and fostering diverse relationships. AARP covers travel costs.

Applicants should be AARP members and volunteers, possessing strategic, leadership, and teamwork skills and strong interpersonal abilities. To apply, submit a volunteer application, resume, and references by Friday, September 15, 2023. Finalists will undergo virtual panel interviews and the new state President will be selected.

Application Process
1. Review the position description.
2. To apply, please complete and email a volunteer application (found here), resume’ and references with the subject line "Volunteer State President Application" to the AARP Maryland mailbox at md@aarp.org on or before Friday, September 15, 2023, at 11:59 p.m. For specific questions about the position, please get in touch with Associate State Director of Outreach and Volunteerism Kathy Lewis at klewis@aarp.org.

With over 850,000 members in Maryland, if not chosen for the state president role, volunteering remains an impactful way to contribute to the well-being of older Marylanders and families. If you apply and are not selected, the hope is that you will continue to volunteer if you are already connected with AARP or if you are new to AARP that we can match you with other volunteer roles that are fulfilling.
