AARP Fitness Parks Make it Fun and Easy to Exercise and Connect Your Community
We all know that getting outside and moving has benefits, especially for those aged 50 and older. From improving heart, bone and brain health to reducing stress, improving sleep, and combatting loneliness, movement is almost a magic elixir!
But despite knowing that exercise is beneficial to good health, many adults just aren't physically active enough. In fact, AARP research found that older adults are falling far short of the 150 minutes of moderate exercise per week that the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention recommends.
One fun and easy way for 50+ adults to get out in move is to visit to an AARP Fitness Park. In 2019, AARP launched a program to build fitness parks in every state, both territories and the District of Columbia, as part of our longstanding commitment to help communities enhance the health and well-being of residents.
The first park was opened in Florida, and today each park is equipped with easy-to-use machines and stations built for people across the fitness and mobility spectrum. The parks are free and open to the public, and community members can even sign up for guided classes to make full use of the equipment.
So grab a friend or family member and make it a regular habit to visit an AARP Fitness Park in your community! Find your local AARP Fitness Park today.
