Food insecurity among older adults in WNC is a hidden crisis. Join AARP & OLLI to learn about the issue and how you can help support local agencies feeding hungry elders.
Join AARP North Carolina Mountain Region and the OLLI at UNC Asheville Inclusion Committee for an important conversation about food insecurity among older adults in Western North Carolina. In 2025, AARP completed a major project highlighting this issue, featuring photographs and quotes from more than 50 individuals interviewed by AARP volunteers. These volunteers visited nine sites—including food pantries and congregate dining facilities—across WNC to capture real stories. Learn about this pervasive challenge and discover ways to support local agencies working to feed hungry elders.
