Our virtual cooking series celebrates National Native American Heritage Month with Baked Lemon- Dill Alaskan Sockeye Salmon.
About the Event
This session of our Cooking Around the World series honors National Native American Heritage Month with Baked Lemon-Dill Alaskan Sockeye Salmon and Bannock (Alaskan pan bread).
For thousands of years, salmon, particularly sockeye, has been a cornerstone of Alaskan sustenance, deeply woven into the region’s culture, heritage and economy. Bannock is a type of fry bread that was a staple in the diets of early settlers and fur traders. Most Indigenous nations in North America have some version of bannock. Inuit call it palauga, Mi'kmaq luskinikn and Ojibwe call it ba'wezhiganag.
It’s only fitting that we spotlight this vital fish and bread during this special month. Recipes will be emailed to registrants in the confirmation and reminder emails.
