Find out about the housing option known as an Accessory Dwelling Unit, and how an ADU might help you continue to live independently as you age.
About the Event
AARP Rhode Island’s livable communities work continued this year with our successful effort to change Rhode Island law to make it easier for people to add Accessory Dwelling Units (ADUs) to their properties. What is an ADU? It’s a smaller independent residential unit on the same lot as a single-family home where older adults can continue to thrive in the neighborhoods they love as their housing needs change.
This webinar complements our success in Rhode Island by providing an array of universal design concepts, including innovative ADU designs, that may meet the needs of people living in other states as well. Our speaker is Richard Duncan, executive director of the Universal Design Institute and the Better Living Design Institute in Asheville, North Carolina. Richard is a planner who has spent over 35 years in the field of architectural and product accessibility and universal design in residential, public, and transportation environments.
