About the Event
Detecting misinformation (false or misleading info that spreads unintentionally) and disinformation (info that’s designed to deceive) is becoming increasingly challenging, given the growing sophistication of deepfakes. These faked images or recordings can be highly convincing, thanks to the use of artificial intelligence in creating them.
The speaker is Doug Shadel, a former fraud investigator and special assistant attorney general with the Washington State Attorney General’s office and currently managing director for Fraud Prevention Strategies, LLC, a Seattle-based consulting firm.He served as the State Director for AARP Washington for almost 20 yearsand co-authored the 2021 AARP Fraud Frontiers Report, one of the largest studies AARP has done on consumer fraud.
