See how alleys can be clean, green, and healthy public spaces for our environment, community, and cities.
Alleys comprise nearly 30% of the roadways in Normal Heights, making them a significant yet untapped resource for healthy placemaking. By beautifying these spaces and creating connections to key community destinations such as schools, churches, parks, and recreation centers, we aim to enhance the livability of the neighborhood.
Join us at a family-friendly Pop-Up event in Normal Heights where we’ll explore how alleys can be transformed into vibrant public spaces for everyone! In partnership with the Adams Avenue Business Association (AABA) and UC San Diego undergraduate students, this fun event highlights AARP’s commitment to working WITH community as we work to create a more livable San Diego. Through community engagement and collaboration with local residents, businesses, and partner organizations, we'll demonstrate how alley transformation can lead to direct public health benefits for all ages.
The event will feature activity zones, interactive models, demonstrations, listening and voting stations, crafts, and kids’ activities, showcasing how placemaking and age-friendly design can make a positive impact on our environment, neighborhoods, and cities. Be part of this transformative initiative and discover the potential of alleyways in creating healthier and more vibrant communities.
